    Street Fair

Saturday, August 18, 2007, 09:58 PM PST [Personal]

Today I worked at a street fair and I never realized how much fun those can be. I didn't get to go to any of the booths and take part in their goods and services, but just seeing everyone having a good time and passing out balloons to kids was pretty fun.

I really wanted to go and get a Tarot reading because it has been awhile since I've had one done. And getting a henna tattoo would have been nice.

All in all, it was a great two hours. Even though the sun was always in my face.

    #29 - Fun Getting Dirty

Sunday, August 12, 2007, 03:01 PM PST [Personal]

I repotted my tomato plants. I had so much fun playing in the soil. It completely made my sad mood from last night and this morning dissappate.

    #28 - Getting there

Friday, August 10, 2007, 01:50 PM PST [Personal]

I sat down for about an hour and did work on my summer homework. I'm tackling the books I have to read because cramming the constitution and the essay can be saved until the 26th.

I read for an hour in Catch-22 by Joseph Heller but I barely got anywhere because I just cannot for the life of me turn my brain down a notch to concentrate. Even wearing my glasses didn't help much. I read probably about 5 pages before I just had to sit and do my best to meditate and try to center myself.

That helped a bit, but not much. Then again, I'm currently on page 38. That's a lot better from page 11 or something. And once I get to page 47 I can start the next journal entry. (Each reading journal has to have a minimum of 10 entries.) So, I just need to find some way to quiet my brain. I think I have ADD or something. I just can hardly ever concentrate. There's been occasions that I can, but I just can't do it on a regular basis.

The other two books I have to read are: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky (which is quite slow, dry, and hard to wade through; luckily I have the audio book so that can help me along) & Grendel by some guy I can't remember (which is actually pretty good and an easy read, except I've never read Beowulf).

In other news, I finally found time to rewatch Labyrinth (my favourite movie ever) last night. I watched it about 6 times yesterday. The movie always fills me with magic and gets me singing and dancing. David Bowie is amazing!

#26 - Fallen from the tree

Sunday, August 5, 2007, 09:38 PM PST [Personal]

I woke up to something I didn't want to hear this morning. The sound of a baby squirrel hitting the ground as it fell from the tree in my backyard. My mother rushed out to the back porch because she wanted to help, but then she remembered that if she were to touch it the mother squirrel wouldn't come help it.

So, she left it there. Then the neighbor's dogs started barking at it, which scared the mother squirrel. By the time the mother squirrel built up the courage to go back and pick up her baby, the animal was dead. Needlessly. Just dead.

If the neighbor's dogs hadn't had barked, the baby squirrel might have lived a bit longer.

Needless to say, this ruined my day.

    #24 - Odd Circumstance

Friday, July 27, 2007, 05:48 PM PST [Personal]

Earlier, I mentioned that I felt the calling to start a garden. Well, here's an update on that:

A couple of days a go my mom went to a natural pet supply store. When she came home she calls me to the kitchen and says, "Danielle, I bought you some tomato plants to take care of. And you can also take care of the small house plants we have on the ledge in the kitchen."

HOW COOL IS THAT?! I didn't even tell her I wanted to start a garden or take care of plants. And the plants have already been named:

The tomato plants are Fred Weasley & George Weasley (but we just call them Fred & George) and the house plants are Severus & Voldemort (I call him "Voldy"). I have to make name tags for the house plants right now and then I have to wait to make name tags for the tomato plants because they are grape and some type of tomato that has meat in its name; I can't tell the type of tomatoes until they've bloomed. But I'll be so excited when they do.

So that's my mini update. Nothing much else to report besides the fact that since the Harry Potter series is finished, there is a huge piece of my heart that hurts. I'm so sad that something that has taken ten years of my life (I've been a fan since the beginning) is now over. There is hope though. JKR has said she may write an encyclopedia in the future. That would be amazing to read. I still say she needs to write Hogwarts, A History & Magical Me. Those would be amazing reads.
